Mercedes-Benzaims to be one of the first, if not the first, premium carmakers to introduce full electric cars on the roads. They have been running an electric B-Class for years and are now testing this SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. Testing seems to be going stunningly as the car has just *quietly* set a new record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The record time of 7:56.234 minutes is a record because it is the fastest time ever set by a production electric car on that infamous test track.
Said Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH: “Mercedes-AMG impressively shows the potential of the SLS AMG Coupé Electric Drive with this new record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Mercedes-AMG is the first vehicle manufacturer to have circled the Nordschleife in under 8 minutes with an electrically-powered series production vehicle. This record run is further proof for our constant innovative vigour.”
One of the reasons for its stickiness on the track is the AMG Torque Dynamics which are made possible by the wheel-selective all-wheel (AWD) drive, and the powerful electric motors.
The four motors, one on each wheel, together produce 551kW of power and 1 000Nm of torque, making this the most powerful production car that Mercedes-Benz has. It is claimed to deliver the 0 – 100km/h time in just 3.9 seconds and top off at 250km/h.
