Jaguar is a Star Car at Charterhouse

A post war Jaguar, which has travelled around the world, is one of the star cars in the Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars being held at Sherborne Castle on Sunday 20th July.

“The car was purchased in 1949 and immediately shipped over to Australia, where it stayed for many years. Having changed hands a few times, it was then shipped to Singapore and eventually repatriated to England.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “Rather amazingly, it has travelled further than I ever have!”

This Jaguar Mk IV is a real gentleman’s express. Fitted with a 3.5 litre 6 cylinder engine it has real road presence, especially with its huge chrome headlamps and grill. Finished in maroon, and with its original maroon leather interior, this matching numbers car is estimated at £32,000-36,000 when it goes under the Charterhouse hammer.

This specialist auction follows on from the Charterhouse June classic car auction, where an Australian client flew over and successfully bought a 1936 Alvis Silver Eagle for over £35,000. This Alvis was underbid by a German telephone bidder, showing once again the strength of the classic car market and the importance in using the internet to generate buyers. Overall, this auction totalled just under £190,000.

Charterhouse is now accepting further entries into this important classic car auction at Sherborne Castle on Sunday 20th July.
