Opel has released some details regarding their latest turboengine, the 1.6-litre SIDI. SIDI is short for Spark Ignition Direct Injection, and is being hailed as an improvement over its predecessor. It will first be fitted into the Astra, and perhaps, but not confirmed, later into other Opel brand cars.
The new four-cylinderturbo is good for 125kW and 280Nm of torque from 1650rpm. This is 50Nm more than its predecessor. Opel says it will only drink, on average, 5.9 litres per 100km of fuel and emit some 139 g/km of C02s. Both manual and automatic versions can be bought.
No word from Opel in South Africa yet, but we reckon they will bring this engine here too, seeing as how they have been trying very hard to be competitive lately.
